Meet the Photographer

Hey, my name is Raghul Shanmuganathan

Hi, I’m Raghul. I am a photographer based in the Öresund region (Malmö/CPH) with an obsession for cinematic visuals. I work in tech full-time and am currently following my artistic passion more seriously.


My background in photography didn't start in a pristine, perfectly lit studio. It started out in the wild, capturing unpredictable wildlife, harsh Nordic landscapes, casual portraits for friends, and bold architecture. That foundation taught me how to read natural light and find beauty in deep shadows.


Today, I bring that same dramatic, atmospheric style to human subjects. I don’t shoot light, airy, pastel photos. I shoot moody, high-contrast images that feel like a movie. When I am not behind the camera, you can usually find me building in the tech world or planning my next conceptual shoot.

The Connection: Deeply tied to the cinematic duality of the concept, utilizing high-contrast, expressive wardrobe pieces. She bridges the gap between light and dark, transitioning from a crisp, flowing white top to an edgy, layered night look featuring a corset, gloves, and a uniquely styled leather wrap scarf.

The Core Vision

 

 

Vibe: Cinematic and moody editorial, transitioning from a flowing, natural state during golden hour to high-contrast, structured light art after dark.


The Contrast: We are contrasting the historic, rustic ruins of Månstorp Gables with modern, bright motion and futuristic LED light traces.

 

The Color Palette

 

  • The Anchor: Solid blacks (pants, skirt, corset, gloves) grounding the looks and blending into the moody night atmosphere.


  • The Pop: Crisp white (the top) to capture motion and add visual drama against the warm sunset.


  • The Glow: Vibrant, dynamic light traces from the handheld LED illuminating the post-sunset darkness.


  • The Details: Subtle textures from the leather scarf and metallic hints from the curated rings and necklaces.

Since we are shooting across two distinct lighting setups, we will switch from a flowing sunset look to a structured, edgy night look.


The Sunset Base: The white top paired with black pants for movement and high contrast in the open fields.


The After-Dark Edge: A layered, structured look featuring the corset, black skirt, shorts, tights, gloves, and black headband.


Footwear Rotation: Glitter or beige high heels for structured poses, black high heels, and black summer shoes for mobility on location.


Accessories: The black leather scarf (plus three alternative scarves) and a jewelry box of rings and necklaces to add fine detail.

The Body: Canon EOS M50 Mark II


The Why: Moving around ancient ruins and open fields requires agility. This camera is compact and lightweight, allowing us to move quickly and freely to chase the rapidly changing golden hour light. Its fast autofocus is perfect for tracking dynamic, flowing motion in the fields, while the mirrorless sensor delivers the high-end, editorial-quality resolution needed for the dramatic, high-contrast night shots.


The Glass: Sigma 30mm f/1.4 Lens


The Why: This is our primary cinematic storytelling lens. The 30mm focal length gives us a slightly wider field of view, which is perfect for capturing the epic scale and texture of the stone gables alongside the fashion. Because it opens up to f/1.4, it acts as a light sponge, easily handling the transition from dusk to dark. It creates a beautifully shallow depth-of-field, ensuring the flowing motion and sharp poses stand out cleanly against the dreamy, blurred background of the historic ruins.


The Glass: Canon 50mm f/1.2 Lens


The Why: This lens is a low-light powerhouse. By opening up to an incredibly wide f/1.2, it allows us to keep capturing beautiful, clean images even as the sun dips below the horizon. It also provides extreme subject isolation—meaning it will melt the heavy, historic stone textures of the ruins into a soft, creamy background (bokeh), keeping the absolute focus on the fashion and the mood.


The Light: Zhiyun Molus X100 Pro


The Why: A cinematic shoot after dark requires powerful but mobile lighting. This compact LED packs the punch of a massive studio light but runs on a portable battery grip, allowing us to move freely around the open fields and ruins without being tied down by cables. It is the perfect tool to sculpt dramatic, high-contrast shadows and illuminate our post-sunset editorial shots against the ancient stones.

  • Time: 19:30
  • Location: Månstorp Gables, 235 99 Vellinge (Google Maps)
  • The Plan: I will pick you up from your home tonight (Sunday) at 19:30.
  • The Location: From there, we will head directly to Månstorp Gables. Arriving around 20:00 gives us perfect timing to set up and catch the golden hour light before the sun sets, smoothly transitioning into our dark, moody light-art session.

What I am bringing (Raghul)?

  • The Gear: Canon EOS M50 Mark II, Sigma 30mm f/1.4, Canon 50mm f/1.2, and the Zhiyun Molus X100 Pro.
  • The Props: The handheld LED lights are specifically for painting the glowing light trails in the dark.
  • The Vibe: The fully downloaded Spotify playlist we built together, ready to play on set to keep the energy flowing naturally.

  • The Sunset Wardrobe: The white top and black pants, plus your black summer shoes for easy mobility on the grass.
  • The After-Dark Wardrobe: The structured look, black skirt (with shorts/tights), corset, gloves, and the black headband. (Plus the backup black top!)
  • The Details: Your 3 scarves (including the black leather wrap), jewelry box, the high heels (beige and black glitter), and your touch-up kit (cosmetics, hair gel, hair brush).
  • The Energy: Just bring your natural movement and creative flow! No pressure, we are just going to have fun and make some incredible art together.

How long does it take to get our photos?

Shooting Time: For a shoot like this, I’d say roughly 3 to 4 hours is the sweet spot. That gives us plenty of time to be creative and try different angles without feeling rushed.

Sneak Peeks: I will send you a handful of fully edited, cinematic preview shots within 48 hours so you have something immediate to share and look at.

The Full Gallery: The complete, color-graded editorial collection will be delivered to you via a private, high-resolution Pixieset gallery within 4 to 6 weeks after the shoot.
