Location scouting for the shoot

Central Lund

Lund is one of those cities that feels made for photography. Between the historic cathedral, the atmosphere around Mårtenstorget, the cafés, and the narrow streets nearby, you can create a full editorial session without leaving the city center. Mårtenstorget is Lund’s event square and market square, while Lund Cathedral is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks and one of Sweden’s most visited churches.

For this shoot, I wanted to keep the mood cinematic and grounded. The goal was not just to document a location, but to use the surroundings as part of the story, letting brick walls, open squares, storefronts, and softer street corners shape the portrait style. That mix of urban texture and historic architecture gives the photos a strong sense of place.

Mårtenstorget worked especially well because it gives you variety in a compact area. You can move between open space, building edges, reflections, and street detail without losing the visual thread of the session. Around Lund Cathedral, the scale changes completely, which adds drama and contrast to close-up portraits and wider frames.

The streets between the square, the cathedral, and the café stops are just as useful as the main landmarks. Those transitions often create the best editorial frames, especially when you want a more relaxed, natural look between the stronger hero images. In a city like Lund, the surrounding streets are not just background—they are part of the pacing of the story.

If you are planning a portrait session in Lund, the best results usually come from combining landmarks with in-between moments. Start with a strong anchor location, then use the nearby streets for movement, candids, and detail shots. That gives the final gallery more rhythm and makes the story feel complete

There is a specific kind of magic that happens when you take family portraits out of a stiff, formal studio and bring them onto the streets. Children are full of raw, unscripted energy, and I believe their portraits should reflect exactly that.

Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing these two incredible sisters for an urban lifestyle session in the heart of Lund. Our goal was simple: blend their dynamic, playful sibling bond with a polished, high-end editorial aesthetic. We traded traditional poses for streetwear styling, and canvas backdrops for the historic cobblestones of Skåne.

Here is a look at our afternoon exploring Mårtenstorget, the shadows of Lund Cathedral, and the cozy corners of the city.

Mårtenstorget: The Urban Playground

When photographing kids, you have to let them move. We started the session around Mårtenstorget, utilizing the modern structural steel and public art as our playground.

This is where the magic of lifestyle photography shines. Instead of telling them to stand still and smile, I let them climb, swing, and jump. The result? Gravity-defying action shots that perfectly capture their personalities. The cool tones of the steel contrasted beautifully with their streetwear—the denim jackets, plaid skirts, and that pop of Nordic mint.

Historic Streets & Lund Cathedral: Editorial Street Style

As we transitioned away from the square and moved toward Lund Cathedral (Lunds domkyrka), the vibe of the shoot shifted. Lund is famous for its 12th-century architecture and winding cobblestone streets, which provided a moody, cinematic backdrop for our editorial street-style portraits.

I love using the natural elements of the city to frame my subjects. We played with the reflections in shop windows, the leading lines of the cobblestone alleys, and the rich, warm tones of the historic brick walls. The juxtaposition of their modern streetwear against the ancient architecture of Lund gave these images a striking, magazine-quality finish.

Espresso House: The Cinematic Amber Glow

To wrap up the session, we stepped out of the cool, overcast Nordic daylight and into the warmth of Espresso House.

A dynamic lifestyle gallery shouldn't just be one note. Shifting the environment allowed us to play with mixed lighting. Using the deep, moody shadows of the café, the corrugated metal walls, and the rich amber glow of the indoor lighting, we created a completely different, cinematic feel to end the day. It was the perfect, relaxed setting to capture a few final, quiet portraits.

Say hello. Let's work together.

Family portraits don’t have to be forced. They can be dynamic, editorial, and genuinely look like you. Whether we are chasing natural light on the cobblestones of Lund or playing with cinematic shadows in Malmö, my goal is to create a gallery that captures your authentic dynamic with a polished, artistic edge.
